An LED Exclamation Point At North Station

Since it began accepting the first tenants in November, the 503-unit Avalon North Station luxury apartment tower has become a popular selfie backdrop in Boston’s West End. Part of the reason is the dramatic 400-foot-long LED strip that runs down the side of the 38-story tower. Alfred Wojciechowski, a principal for Boston-based CBT Architects, said the installation (nicknamed “The Light Saber”) was meant to provide a dramatic contrast to the silhouette of the building. At 38 stories, Avalon North Station enjoys the distinction of being New England’s tallest apartment building. But development in the neighborhood is booming and Avalon North Station will be eclipsed with the first building at Bulfinch Crossing, HYM Investment Group’s redevelopment of the Government Center Garage complex including a 45-story apartment tower. CBT also is architect for that structure, which will include a 32nd-floor roof deck and club room.
