Mass. Unemployment Rate Drops To 5.5 Percent In June

Massachusetts-State-SealThe Massachusetts unemployment rate in June dropped to its lowest level since August 2008, according to statistics from the Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The Bay State posted a jobless rate of 5.5 percent in June, adding 3,700 jobs for the month. The state's unemployment rate was reported at 5.6 percent in May and 7.1 percent in June 2013. The national jobless rate in June was 6.1 percent, down 0.2 percent from May.

Since June 2013, Massachusetts has added a net of 48,900 jobs, with 49,400 jobs added in the private sector and 500 jobs lost in the public sector. The office revised its May job estimates upward to 10,300 from the 9,100 job gain previously reported for the month.
