Debbie Blais Real Estate ScholarshipDebbie Blais Real Estate, Grafton Suburban Credit Union, Savers Bank and more are featured in this week's roundup of banks and brokerages giving back to their communities.


Bankers Accepting The Challenge

Several local banks have accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which has raised nearly $100 million for the ALS Association since July 29, according to the association's website. In addition to taking the challenge, Berkshire Bank donated $2,500, Hampden Bank donated $2,000 and Leader Bank donated $5,500.

BankGloucester will donate a total of $20,000 to organizations of the community's choice as part of its "Banking For the Community" program. Voters can visit the bank's website and select the organizations they would like to receive funds. The organization with the most votes will receive $5,000. The organizations receiving the second and third most votes will receive $3,000 each. The organizations with the fourth and fifth most votes will receive $1,000 each and 14 other organizations (with the next highest number of votes) will receive $500 each.


BayCoast Bank

Fall River-based BayCoast Bank has contributed $5,000 to the Fall River Women's Union, a  social services organization that promotes the welfare of women and children.


Debbie Blais Real Estate

Debbie Blais Real Estate has awarded two $1,000 scholarships to local students as part of its 12th Annual Scholarship program. The recipients were Zoe Pestana of Lakeville and Julie Anderson of Middleboro.


Florence Savings Bank

Florence Savings Bank is offering area residents free document shredding services at its "Community Shred Day." The event will take place on Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the bank's Granby office at 68 Pleasant St.


Grafton Suburban Credit Union

Grafton Suburban Credit Union on Aug. 5 helped sponsor "National Night Out," a nationwide community event that heightens the awareness of crime and drug prevention. The annual program involved more than 15,000 communities in 50 states. Locally, the Grafton Police Department was the co-sponsor.


Leominster Credit Union

Leominster Credit Union will hold a Shred-A-Thon at its Worcester branch at 910 West Boylston St. on Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Members and non-members can get rid of old, sensitive documents by shredding and recycling them at the Shred-A-Thon. 


Savers Bank

Southbridge-based Savers Bank donated $1,000 to the Southbridge Cops N Kids program to help fund its their upcoming Runway Car Show on Sept. 13. Cops N Kids is a nonprofit run by the Southbridge Police Department to help prevent juvenile delinquency.
