By Jim Miara In January, smart-growth advocates held the 5th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth conference in Denver. I didnt attend, but from interviews with several people who were there and a look at the conference agenda, it appears that smart growth mavens are evolving. They are beginning to come down from the clouds to take on some of the messy realities of modern growth patterns, such as cars, lifestyle preferences and the economy. Certainly, their reluctance in the past to address the awkward practicalities of everyday life has hurt the smart growth cause. This shift is a good sign.
