On an Island
Say the word “Chappaquiddick” and the immediate response you’ll get from most people is “Ted Kennedy.” The name of the island, considered part of the Martha’s Vineyard community of Edgartown, is forever linked to the shameful 1969 incident in which the senator drove his car off a bridge – killing his young passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne – and then left the scene.
