Project Planned for Route 9 Runs Into Some Roadblocks

Brookline and Newton residents are voicing concerns over the Chestnut Hill Square development along Route 9 being proposed by Newton-based New England Development. It would include 226 luxury condominiums, 191,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and a 40,000-square-foot grocery store.

Brookline town officials are challenging a state environmental analysis that is enabling a developer to move forward with plans to build more than 200 condominiums and about 200,000 square feet of retail space along Route 9.
