A Winn-ing Plan (posted 05/20/13 at 7:00am)
Adam Stein has been involved with historic building rehab projects since college in Savannah, Ga., where he specialized in architecture and historic preservation. The school he attended was redeveloping several properties downtown, and his work in the field helped solidify his career choice. He ended up working in Atlanta on historic rehabs in multifamily housing. He then moved back to Boston five years ago, working on new construction of residential housing. Then he landed at WinnDevelopment, where he helps reposition and revamp historic but run-down properties.

Many mortgage lenders had a tough time surviving the recent housing crash. Very few managed to prosper. Danvers-based Mortgage Network is one of the few. Founded in 1988 by Robert McInnes and Albert Paré III, they now have offices in nine states and 175 loan officers operating across the country.

Money Lessons (posted 05/05/13 at 3:00am)
Technically, Financial Literacy Month wrapped up at the end of April, but just try telling that to Ingrid Adade. As the financial education officer at Leominster Credit Union, Adade has helmed a variety of programs targeting everybody from preschool to senior citizen centers with myriad money management lessons. Recently, Adade partnered with Bryon Goguen, now assistant controller, to deliver a daylong program to area college students, a population they felt was not sufficiently targeted. Adade and Goguen sat down with Banker & Tradesman to chat about Finding Easy Street and the other financial literacy programs Leominster Credit Union offers its community.

The Feeling Is Mutual (posted 04/28/13 at 3:00am)
The first thing you’ll notice about Ann McLaughlin is her firm handshake. “I hate a weak handshake,” she confesses when we meet at Mutual Bank’s main office in Whitman. The second thing you’ll notice is McLaughlin’s unwavering loyalty to Mutual Bank. After 48 years, it makes sense. McLaughlin has served in a variety of roles since she joined the bank just out of high school. And although she celebrated her 48th anniversary at Mutual Bank earlier this year, she doesn’t sound a bit like she’s ready to retire.

Marion Kaiser has always been drawn to the sea, one way or another. After more than three decades in the seafood business, she found her planned Cape retirement wasn’t enough action to satisfy her, so she’s launched a successful second career in real estate.

Upton native Lloyd L. Hamm Jr. did his undergraduate degree in biology, but virtually did a 180, winding up first at Mechanics Bank in Worcester and then making his way to Eastern Bank in 1986.

Developing Charlesview’s New Residences (posted 03/31/13 at 3:00am)
The 213-unit Charlesview apartments at 51 Stadium Way in Boston’s Allston neighborhood are slated for demolition next year. That’s because a development team of The Community Builders and Charlesview Inc., an interdenominational nonprofit comprised of local religious leaders that operate the apartments, have started construction up the road at the old Brighton Mills strip mall along Western Avenue on 240 rental units and 100 units that will be owned by residents to replace the current apartments. Each and every resident will be relocated to the new apartments, to be called the Charlesview Residences once they are finished, likely in mid-2014.

If you looked up “community banker” in the dictionary, you might well find Walter “Wally” Dwyer’s picture next to it.
