KeyBank will align its Boston commercial banking market with its Connecticut and Greater Springfield presence to form the Connecticut/Massachusetts Market, the bank said in a statement released Friday.

The expanded market will be led by James R. Barger, who has been appointed market president and commercial sales leader. Barger has been market president and commercial sales leader of KeyBank’s Rochester, New York market since 2013.

“Strategically aligning our Boston market with the rest of Massachusetts and Connecticut under Jim’s leadership allows us to maximize Key’s market-specific approach throughout both states,” Joe Markey, KeyBank regional executive said in a statement. “During his tenure as market president, Jim’s ability to identify and develop talent, along with his focus on serving the needs of our clients and community, have been instrumental in driving tremendous growth in KeyBank’s Rochester market. We are very confident in his ability to lead and grow the Connecticut and Massachusetts market with similar success.”
