The southeastern Massachusetts town of Berkley finally has its very first bank branch.

Swansea-based BayCoast Bank opened a branch there earlier this month, according to the Taunton Daily Gazette.

The branch is located in Berkley Common Historic District, has four employees and is equipped with modernized accommodations such as teller pods and drive-up teller machines. An interactive teller machine gives a customer the choice to see and talk with a live “virtual teller” based at the bank’s Swansea headquarters through a video monitoring.

“I’ve lived in town all my life, and so have my parents and grandparents, and there’s never been a bank,” said Branch Manager Diane Tavares, who lives four minutes away from her new workplace.

Berkley has about 6,700 residents. BayCoast Bank holds $1.63 billion in assets and has 20 offices with the addition of its Berkley branch.
