Encore Boston Harbor

Nightclub owner Ed Kane’s Big Night Entertainment Group has signed onto the Wynn Boston Harbor casino complex with plans for a 15,235-square-foot venue.

Massachusetts gaming regulators are reviewing the future of the $2.4 billion complex under construction following the resignation of former CEO Steve Wynn amid allegations of sexual improprieties with employees. The Las Vegas-based casino company is considering a name change, with multiple reports that it will be known as Encore Boston Harbor.

Big Night Entertainment signed a 10-year lease effective Dec. 1, before the allegations first surfaced in the Wall Street Journal on Jan. 27. Wynn resigned Feb. 6.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is investigating Wynn Resorts as it mulls whether to revoke the license of Wynn Resorts, which is proceeding with construction on an “at-risk basis,” Chairman Steve Crosby said last week. Completion is scheduled in mid-2019.

Boston-based Big Night Entertainment operates a dozen nightclubs, including the Shrine and Red Lantern nightclubs at Connecticut’s Foxwoods Resort Casino. Last fall it opened Big Night Scorpion Bar, a cantina-themed nightclub, and The Grand, a 600-capacity nightclub and private event space, within WS Development’s One Seaport complex at 58 Seaport Boulevard in Boston. Kane was not immediately available for comment.
