The Providence, R.I.-based Citizens Bank today announced it had recruited a former BNY Mellon and Credit Suisse executive as its new deputy general counsel.

Ray Dorado today was named executive vice president and deputy general counsel, head of Enterprise Bank regulatory. In this post, he will report to Steve Gannon, the bank’s general counsel and chief legal officer.

“Ray is an exceptionally well qualified professional who will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to his role at Citizens,” Gannon said in a statement. “He joins us at a great time of opportunity in our company’s history, and fulfilling on our regulatory agenda is central to our achieving long-term success. Ray and his team will be central to how we meet and exceed our goals.”

Prior to joining Citizens, Dorado served in a number of senior legal and business line positions during an 11-year career at BNY Mellon. His past titles include executive vice president and senior policy advisor in the investment services division, deputy general counsel to the investment services businesses and interim general counsel, and he has extensive experience in the financial services regulatory area, the bank said.

Before that, he worked at Credit Suisse for 16 years as managing director and deputy general counsel.

Dorado is a member of the executive committee of the SIFMA Compliance & Legal Society and frequently lectures at its seminars. He’s also served as Chairman of the SIFMA General Counsels Committee and on committees at The Financial Services Roundtable and the New York Bankers Association.
