Walmart is sharing new details of its plans to convert its 133,000-square-foot Worcester Sam’s Club into a new e-commerce distribution center.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retail giant says the Worcester Crossing facility will reopen late this month, stocking up to 2,000 of the most popular items purchased through its website.

The Worcester store was one of 63 Sam’s Clubs that closed in early 2018. The company selected Worcester for the fulfillment center because of its proximity to major highways, spokeswoman Laura Ladd Poff said. It’s expected to begin operations late this month, enabling shipping times to be shortened to two days.

Sam’s Club has opened seven other such centers in former retail stores since 2018. The Worcester facility will employ approximately 120 people.
