A senior lawyer at Boston law firm Davis Malm died on Christmas Day at age 59.

Thomas S. Fitzpatrick practiced law at the firm for 31 years and was its president between 2009 and 2014.

An obituary published in the Boston Globe did not list a cause of death.

“Tom was one of the finest, most creative, zealous and highly respected litigators in the history of Davis Malm – and in the Commonwealth – who consistently displayed great confidence, amazing perseverance and unmatched advocacy skills,” Davis Malm President Amy L. Fracassini said in a statement. “His wisdom, wit and leadership will be greatly missed and will forever be an integral part of our firm.”

Tom began his career at Davis Malm as an associate, and played a key role in a case that set precedents in Massachusetts law in the areas of fiduciary duties and fiduciary claims, the firm said in a statement.

Fitzgerald’s obituary notes he was a director and clerk of the 1434 Foundation and Davis Malm’s own statement called him “an advocate for many community outreach initiatives, including the Boston Police Foundation, the Salvation Army and the American Heart Association, among others.”
