Harvard University has received proposals from nine teams of developers to lead the first phase of its planned 36-acre Enterprise Research Campus in Allston.

The list of candidates includes New England Development; Wexford Science & Technology and Accordia Partners; Bulfinch Cos. and Harrison Street; DivcoWest; HYM Investment Group; Lendlease Group; Carpenter & Co. and Longfellow Real Estate Partners; National Development and Alexandria Real Estate Equities; and Tishman Speyer with Bellco Capital, said Brigid O’Rourke, spokeswoman for the Harvard Allston Land Co.

Harvard formed the Allston Land Co. in November 2018 to oversee development of its planned 36-acre Enterprise Research Campus in Allston and named former Massport CEO Thomas Glynn to oversee the project. The land was acquired from CSXT, owner of the former rail yard that occupied the land south of the Allston-Brighton tolls, in anticipation of the Massachusetts Turnpike realignment.

The Harvard Allston Land Co. in June sought proposals to develop the first 14.1-acre portion of the Western Avenue site, with plans for 400,000 square feet of office and/or lab space, a 250,000-square-foot hotel and conference center and 250,000 square feet of housing.

Harvard envisions the research campus as a collaborative effort between academia and the private sector on a wide range of startups and research.

The university was pleased that many responses met its goals for the area and it hopes to select a partner by the end of this year, Glynn said in a statement.

“Harvard has been clear that within our partner selection process that there is a list of essential guiding principles and goals for developers to meet. These principles are important to the University, to the local Allston community, city and region, and will ensure that the Enterprise Research Campus complements the cutting-edge institutional research taking place on Harvard’s campus and throughout the region, and that it will integrate into an already thriving community,” he said.
