Boston and state officials are offering up 1.4 acres of land on the edge of downtown Boston for their latest real estate development opportunity.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation issued a request for information for the two parcels which are bordered by Kneeland Street and the South Station connector and will the intention of finding a developer for a 99-year ground lease.
The parcels include a nearly 32,000-square-foot state-owned parcel, 24,600-square-foot highway air rights parcel as well as an option for 4,914 square feet of vacant land owned by the city of Boston.
“Located at a major city gateway with a wealth of transportation options, the property is a blank canvass of creative development potential,” the RFI states.
A meeting and site tour will be held Feb. 25 and responses are due March 13.
In 2016, MassDOT offered the nearby 5.5-acre “SouthGate Boston” parcels on Kneeland Street for redevelopment and set a minimum bid price of $167 million. No developers submitted offers for the parcel, which includes the Veolia North America steam plant, a parking lot and MassDOT office building.
