Nancy SeguinBefore joining Workers Credit Union, Nancy Seguin worked in the manufacturing and wholesale industries. And there’s no doubt, she said, that the credit union world is “just a better fit for me.”

“I think it’s definitely more involved in service and community, and that spirit of service just kind of falls into the human service arena,” she said.

Seguin, who is Workers Credit Union’s human resources manager, has been an employee team captain of two of the credit union’s biggest annual community campaigns – for the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and the Greater Gardner Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.

She has been involved with the Relay for Life both personally and professionally for more than a decade.

“I personally started with the relay in 1999, and I’ve been doing it ever since,” she said. “It’s fun to have the company support for this great cause. … We’re all been hit with it by a family member or friends.”

The Workers Credit Union Relay team has been the top fundraising team in the region, out of more than 100 teams, each of the last two years.

Because of its outstanding fundraising efforts, the Credit Union National Association awarded Workers Credit Union the Dora Maxwell Award for credit union social responsibility and community service in 2011.

The award was “largely due to Nancy’s leadership,” said Jack Doolin, Workers’ senior vice president of human resources.

But Seguin said her co-workers deserve the credit.

“There is such an outpouring of generosity of our employees,” she said. “For whatever the need, we just come together. They give of their time. I’m very honored to chair some of these things, but it’s the employees who make it easy.”

Other community events Sequin has either participated in or helped plan include Salvation Army holiday bell-ringing; Salvation Army Adopt-A Family, and helping other branches and departments in the credit union with local community volunteer activities for charitable causes in their regions.

In her life away from work, Seguin has been a lector and Eucharistic minister for her church for many years.

She joined Workers in 2005 after working as a human resources and office manager at area companies. Seguin is a graduate of Fitchburg State University.
