MassDevelopment has issued a $28.46 million bond for Pipefitters Local 537, a craft trade union. The bond will give Pipefitters the ability to build 70,000 square feet of space in Dorchester for training and office purposes. This bond will also contribute to furniture, fixtures and equipment for the facility.

This LEED-certified building will support the 2,848 tradesmen and women in construction, apprenticeship, or any related industry that are represented by Pipefitters Local 537.

The trade group anticipates its membership will grow by 100 people women each year, and hopes this new facility will attract an even higher enrollment in its apprenticeship program, Pipefitters said in a statement.
