Shared workspace provider WeWork’s latest lease will add 120,000 square feet at 501 Boylston St. as part of local expansion plans, giving it a total of nearly 10,000 desks available for short-term rentals in Boston and Cambridge.
The lease is for WeWork’s eighth Greater Boston location, and will have space for 1,700 desks when it opens this summer, The Boston Globe reported. It’s the second Back Bay location for WeWork, which accommodated Amazon’s first expansion into Boston last year at 31 St. James Ave. and plans to open another location at 33 Arch St. in Downtown Crossing this year with more than 1,500 desks, spokeswoman Janet Park said.
The New York-based co-working giant has existing locations at 200 Portland St. in the Bulfinch Triangle, 1 Beacon St., 31 St. James Ave. in Back Bay along with 625 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge. Monthly desk rentals start at $350.
