The Boston Celtics will relocate their practice and training facility to Boston Landing in Brighton in 2018.

The team, which has trained at the HealthPoint complex in a Waltham office park since 1999, will occupy 70,000 square feet in a new building at 40 Guest St. overlooking the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Renderings by Boston-based Elkus Manfredi Architects show a cantilevered practice facility 55 feet high with a 40-foot glass wall overlooking the Mass Pike.

“The Boston Landing location will bring us closer to our game day home at the TD Garden while providing high impact brand visibility,” Celtics President Rich Gotham said in a statement.

The facility will include:

  • Two state-of-the-art parquet floor basketball courts where the team will practice.
  • Audio-visual technology throughout the facility.
  • Expanded strength and conditioning, training and recovery facilities.
  • Locker rooms and players’ lounge.
  • Physical therapy areas including hydrotherapy pools.
  • Sports science and nutrition facilities.
  • Expanded media work room, press conference and broadcast facilities.
  • A hospitality area for guests and hosting community relations activities.
  • Work space for the team’s coaching and basketball front office staffs.

Construction is expected to begin this fall with completion estimated in spring 2018.

The training facility is part of the 15-acre Boston Landing mixed-use complex that includes the Bruins’ Warrior Ice Arena, office space, a hotel, retail space, the New Balance headquarters and office space now under construction.

Transwestern/RBJ’s Steve Purpura and Chris McCauley represented NB Development in the transaction, while Michael Joyce and Tom Ashe represented the Celtics.

NB Development filed updated plans for the 40 Guest St. building, which also will include office and lab space, with the Boston Redevelopment Authority this month.
