Redevelopment of the St. James Episcopal Church property in Cambridge’s Porter Square created 46 condos and a new parish hall for the 157-year-old congregation.

The development transformed a former car wash into multifamily housing and replaces the aging parish hall with a new 11,400-square-foot structure that will provide space for children’s programs, a nursery, library, music practice rooms, a commercial kitchen and food pantry.

Needham-based Nauset Construction completed three floors of condos were above the new parish hall. Building amenities include an entertainment room with wet bar, pet spa and electric vehicle charging stations in the below-grade parking garage.

Nauset previously completed two other apartment projects for Acorn in Cambridge: the 37-unit 7 Cameron near Davis Square and the 93-unit Park 77 in Alewife.

They Said It:

“This project creates an architectural highlight for the neighborhood that ties directly into the history of Porter Square. The condominiums help to meet the demand of this supply-constricted market, while the courtyard recreates that historical feel of a classic cloister.”
