The Marlborough Economic Development Corp. is seeking developers for a mixed-use project to be built on a 2.3-acre parcel in the city’s French Hill neighborhood.

The request for proposals due June 15 invites developers to submit plans for a mixture of housing and commercial space, including retail. The five parcels on Lincoln and Mechanic streets are under agreement to the city and Marlborough EDC.

An overlay zoning district is proposed for the long-vacant site, and the RFP encourages high-density projects similar to the city’s Renaissance Lofts and 18-unit Howe Shoe Factory condominiums.

The parcels are adjacent to the Assabet River Rail Trail connecting the Marlborough Village District with downtown Hudson, and the EDC said it’s encouraging proposals that enhance enhance walkability and cycling.

“We hope this RFP will be the catalyst for the revitalization of the French Hill neighborhood, but we also want to ensure that any new development will aim to preserve the area’s historic appeal,” Marlborough EDC Executive Director Meredith Harris said in a statement.
