Needham-based retail developer RK Centers has paid $41.6 million to acquire a pair of suburban Boston shopping plazas.

RK Centers paid $24.1 million for a Walmart Supercenter at 770 Broadway in Saugus and $17.5 million for the 87,615-square-foot Medfield Shops on Route 109. Anchored by a Shaw’s supermarket and Marshalls, the property has been renamed RK Medfield Shops.

Newmark Knight Frank’s Geoffrey Millerd, Justin Smith and Christian Brannelly represented seller OCW Retail Medfield. JLL Boston’s Nat Heald and Chris Angelone represented WS Saugus Properties LLC, an affiliate of WS Development, the seller of the 114,244-square-foot Walmart center, which was built in 2014.

RK Centers has acquired properties totaling 2.15 million square feet in the last three years.

The latest acquisitions reflect RK Centers’ focus on open-air retail properties in well-trafficked locations with high-profile tenants, RK Centers’ Director of Acquisitions Ken Fries said in a statement.
