Target is moving into a growing corner of central Dorchester.

The company confirmed in an email to Banker & Tradesman that it plans to open a 27,000-square-foot store in the Fields Corner section of the Boston neighborhood next year.

“We’re excited to bring an easy, convenient shopping experience to more guests in the Greater Boston area with this new Target store,” company spokesperson Jacqueline DeBuse said in the email. “As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share – including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date.

The store, to be located at 500 Geneva Ave., will be much smaller than typical suburban stores. It will be located just steps from the Fields Corner Red Line stop. The company’s nearest stores are in the South Bay shopping center, Roslindale and Braintree.

DeBuse said Atlantic Retail represented Target in the transaction.
